Who Would Win The 2012 Election If It Were Held Today?
Considering the fact that the 2012 election for the Presidency is approximately a year away, itÕs the perfect time to go through the ever-changing field of likely Conservative Candidates who'll try and defeat President Obama.
Mitt Romney looks to be a favorite for the 2012 election . A former popular Massachusetts governor and 08 candidate for President, Mitt Romney now age 63 is still boyishly charming, sharp, and brings an amazing track record to the table. As far as the downside, his Mormon religion along with the Massachusetts health care law (which is much like President Obama's unpopular health reform bill that just passed) might turn the electorate away from Romney and to another candidate.
Sarah Palin burst onto the political landscape in 2008 as John McCain's running mate, although she did an amazing job in firing up the GOP faithful, she also performed a whole number of now famous mistakes. Unfortunately, these gaffes are tough to forget or to marginalize, and much like Dan Quayle twenty years prior, Sarah Palin found herself branded, perhaps unfairly, for being less than intelligent. That she walked away mid-term from her Governorship in Alaska also probably didnÕt win her a lot of political points. Taking all of this into consideration, plus her clear fame-mongering, it seems less and less likely that sheÕll actually make a 2012 election bid.
Mike Huckabee is an additional popular name rolling around from the right for the upcoming 2012 election. This former AR governor and another 2008 candidate that did not receive the nomination, Huckabee was the GOP frontrunner for a time over the course of the 2008 campaign, even without the same deep pockets some of the other candidates enjoyed that year. Currently the host of his own show on FOX News, Huckabee remains popular with the GOP base and has also demonstrated his capacity to run a powerful campaign. Successful fundraising would be the key for just a Huckabee Presidential run.
Newt Gingrich has become a GOP player for more than twenty years, most famously during his time as Speaker of The House. Seen as a visionary, well-educated and goal-minded, Gingrich's personal life has become somewhat marred by a few divorces along with his polarizing status among the general populace. However, Newt Gingrich can be a skilled grassroots organizer although he has never made a run for President, his candidacy is certainly looking more and more of a sure bet.
Ron Paul, at 75, would wind up being oldest of all of the likely 2012 election candidates, but heÕs got experience that many of the others donÕt since heÕs run for president before, once as a Libertarian in 1988 and another time as a Republican in 2008. Unfortunately, some of Ron Paul's views are looked upon as being too conservative, even for conservatives. WhatÕs more, many of his supporters can be so rabid that they are more of a liability than an asset.
It's still too early to tell who will emerge as the right-wing selection for the 2012 election. Still, it will likely turn out to be a fascinating election cycle definitely.
